    Explanation Program:

In 2003 IFS was the first private company in the Netherlands that started to offer independent forensic biological second opinion.

With that the opportunities for criminal lawyers improved to obtain second opinion. IFS has the necessary expertise in biological and medical aspects of the forensic technical research. The reporters are registered as permanent court experts. Therefore research by IFS is acceptable by the public prosecutors and the bench.
In this course we examine the experiences of recent years. Examples are given on how and with what result IFS is used to carry out second opinion. Experiences that for other defense lawyers may be of interest.

The latest developments in DNA testing are discussed, as well as the capabilities of forensic medicine and forensic pathology.

The through FOIA enforced notification-forms provide a revealing insight into amongst others, errors and contamination in recent years made by the Dutch Forensic Institute . We will take a closer look at the consequences of these errors and contamination.

    Speakers:

Eugene Liscio, Registered Professional Engineer and owner of AI2-3D, located in Toronto, Ontario. He is a specialist in photogrammetry (the science of taking measurements from photographs) and 3D forensic visualizations. He is associated with IFS as consultant.

He worked on many high profile cases in the Netherlands, like the Deventer murder case and the Schiedammer Park killing. In the US he was responsible for the DNA investigation that led to the release of Tim Masters and DNA investigation in the Casey Anthony trial.

Selma Eikelenboom-Schieveld, Medical director at IFS and forensic medical scientist. Her contribution in an Australian case made the release of three innocent convicts (Walsham 3) possible. She also has contributed in the Tim Masters case and the Casey Anthony case.
